Nail Salons in ATL {Apex Nail Studio}

It's been a lazy Sunday in Atlanta...with the rainy and gross weather and some streets being shut down because of President Obama's visit today. I stayed in for most of the day, but eventually ventured out to get my nails done.

Getting my nails done is always such a pick-me-up :)

I tried a new salon, Apex Nail Studio, in West Midtown and loved it! They have the best nail colors and glitter colors (my favorite), a really cute and clean set up, and fantastic customer service.

I can't wait to go back for another mani/pedi!

Colors!!

Fans built into the table, brilliant!
Recently I've been getting bright
base colors & adding glitter to the tips

Eating in ATL {Hankook Taqueria}

I love discovering hidden treasures in Atlanta.

My best friend, Nick, is visiting from NYC this weekend and he requested that we stop by Hankook Taqueria for some Korean BBQ tacos. They were so good. It's a mix of the best of the Korean food & Mexican food worlds.

The restaurant is pretty hidden, but worth the confusing GPS directions. Plus, they've appeared on Scoutmob!

The menu: simple, yet delicious
I love tacos

Nick and I both got chicken tacos

And we shared sesame french fries - a must try!
One order is enough for 2 or 3 :)

If you love tacos, especially Korean BBQ tacos, you've got to make a trip to Hankook Taqueria :)

Summer things

I'm officially in summer mode.
Waking up at odd hours, opening my planner every other day, lounging around, making spontaneous plans with friends, and shopping!

I'm starting my new job in about a month and I need new clothes for the job. I'm almost finished with my post about the new job, stay tuned! :)

Just a peek at the shopping I've been doing!

Loved this white dress (Banana Republic),
green necklace (Banana Republic), and gold hoops (Kate Spade)

Perfect summer and work outfits! Loved this bright skirt (J. Crew)

Kate Spade bangles...the best.

Black and gold flip flops from Charming Charlie

Graduation Gift Guide for Guys

Sometimes I forget...guys read my blog too. Hello, men! Yesterday's graduation gift guide (for female graduates/myself) was a hit, but I did get feedback from some male viewers interested in a gift guide for them. Here it is!

Luckily, I have guy best friends who I sometimes have to buy gifts for, so I made my gift guide based on what I think they'd like.

What's your favorite item?

1. Ties - these are accessories for guys just like scarves or belts are for girls. I love the fun bow tie and long tie options they have at J. Crew!
2. Sunglasses - you can never have too many! These are great gifts for guys, especially a nice professional looking pair.
3. Cologne - I love the Lacoste Eau de Lacoste for men
4. iPhone case - after graduating, it may be time for a more grownup phone case - J. Crew and Jack Spade have great options!
5. Michael Kors Watch - a professional looking watch is great for a new chapter in life, love this black and gold one
6. Post grad trip - After graduation is the perfect time for a vacation with family and/or friends, I'll be posting soon about some fun trip ideas!
7. The Alchemist - I read this book for a class and loved the story and so many of the quotes. Motivational/Inspirational quotes are my favorite!
8. iPad 2 - It's the perfect size to carry to classes or work
9. Luggage - it's shocking how many of my guy friends haven't invested in a nice piece of luggage. A nice leather bag makes for the perfect gift!
10. Suit - suits are very expensive...sorry guys. They're the perfect graduation gift for your guy though because he'll definitely need one!

Updating your resumƩ

I have what seems like an infinite to-do list for this summer. So many things I need to do and want to do, but one of those projects is a must: update my resume.

Once you get into college and start applying for anything really, you'll need a resume on file to submit. Summer is the perfect time to update your resume, and I've broken down the tips for updating into three categories of students (high school students entering college, current college students, and recent grads).

Prospective college students
When creating your resume and LinkedIn profile, be sure to include: high school clubs, outside organizations, jobs (even babysitting), your high school GPA and graduation information, what you plan to major in, your career goal/objective, any relevant skills, any awards/scholarships you've received, any other interesting/relevant experiences

Current college students
Sections of your resume you should update:
Update your GPA
If your major/career plans change, make changes
Update the skills you've acquired over the school year
Add any new study/work abroad experiences
Add any organizations and leadership positions in those organizations
Add any internships and part-time work

Recent college grads
Your objective should be the career/job you're interested in
Include your final GPA and/or major GPA
Include a concise list of skills
Include any awards you've won or degree designations

Other times to update your resume:
After getting a new job/internship
When your GPA changes
When your major or career plans change
After earning awards
After ending a job/internship
After transferring schools
What's your favorite part about your resume?

Santana Jam {giveaway}

My great friend Katherine Santana was one of the inspirations for this blog. She's a phenomenal artist, photographer, designer, and person. I absolutely love her work, and even have two pieces in my apartment. People love them, and I'm so excited to host this giveaway!

She's currently doing an exhibition in Baton Rouge, selling her work!

One of my first posts was on Katherine and her art work, and she's continued to amaze me with her newest creations! She's a student at LSU, majoring in printmaking! Below are some of her recent prints, all very cool.

Blogging Tips for a Successful Blog {part 1}

I started Real College Student of Atlanta less than a year ago and I am amazed and extremely grateful for how great my blogging experience has been! My blog has received over 100,000 views and over 40 different advertisers/sponsors. It's become a business.

So, I just wanted to share some things I've learned during my first year of blogging. This will be a series of posts, and here's part 1!

1. Decide who your blog is for -  Is your blog just for you, for you + your family/friends, or for you + the world/you'd like for it to become profitable?

If it's just for you, you can do what you want. Simple as that. Write when you want and write what you want. Blogging is a wonderful way to express thoughts and images online, and keep them on record!

If it's for you + family/friends, include aspects of your life you think they'd be interested in knowing. Make your blog personal and have it reflect your unique personality. There are tons of fun blog themes and designs that make viewing blogs better. Including photos and videos is also a great way to keep your family and friends interested and have them keep coming back for more.

If you are starting your blog for you + for the general public, understand that your blog should become a brand. Whether you use your name for the blog or come up with another name (like I did), make it something you're passionate about and won't mind showing up somewhere on the internet. Remember that anyone and everyone could see your blog (posts, images, comments, etc.) and understand that. Read on for more tips!

2.  Research other blogs - Once you decide what audience you'll be targeting with your blog (for me it's  high school students/college students/recent grads/people living in Atlanta), find blogs that target similar audiences. I looked at and read plenty of blogs for college students, but did not see any that were written by African Americans nor any written by college students living in Atlanta. I wanted to represent for this population and share my thoughts and experiences with others. However, I learned many of the things I know about blogging from more experienced bloggers. Remember that once you start blogging, make your blog and posts your own style so that people will get to know you through your blog and keep coming back for more!

3. Start writing and keep writing - Plenty of people start blogs. There are over 100 million blogs on the internet, but not everyone consistently blogs. I try to post every day or schedule future posts if I know I'll be too busy to write on a specific day. You should be passionate about your blog's topic or purpose and enjoy sitting down to blog. Let your writing reveal a little something about your personality so that your readers are getting to know you a little bit more through every post. I schedule about 30 minutes to an hour every day for blogging/promoting my blog. I usually make a list every week of possible blog topics and then start writing. You can blog about your life and relate it to your blog's topic or blog specifically about your topic of interest. Remember that photos and videos are always great when used appropriately!

4. Social Media for your blog is necessary - Just like major companies have social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.) you should also have these for your blog. You'll have to decide if you want these to be one and the same with your personal social media.

*I personally plan to keep my personal life (social media) and professional/business/blog life (social media) as separate as possible. It's a personal choice that you'll have to make*

I have a RCSOATL Twitter and a personal Twitter, a Facebook page for RCSOATL, and several other social media sites for promoting my blog. My Instagram and Pinterest accounts are the only social media I currently have public for my personal friends + blog viewers.

Social media allows for promoting blog posts, sharing blog posts, and having others share your blog posts. You can share what topics you're discussing and gain new followers. It's also a great way to connect with readers and fellow bloggers. Also, once you start hosting giveaways, encouraging people to connect via social media is a great entry option.

Look out for more tips this entire summer! Happy blogging!
