Healthy meals by my roommate {Greek salad}

Yum! I know.

 You loved Alexandria's Pescatarian Bowl, and now I'm sharing her go-to salad recipe with you. I think she makes this just about every week and it always looks so good. It never takes her more than a few minutes to prep and mix, which is so convenient after a long day at work. Not only is it pretty, it's so tasty too!

Here's the recipe for Alexandria's Quick Greek Salad

Greens: Mixed baby greens
Add in: Chopped tomatoes
Chopped mixed baby peppers (red, orange, yellow)
Chopped red onions
Dressing: She mixes Italian dressing with squeezed lemon juice for the perfect Greek salad dressing

She uses a large measuring cup/bowl that has a lid. See a smaller version here.

Once you've put all of your ingredients in, put the lid on and shake it up! Then pour it out on your plate/bowl and enjoy :)

So simple. Yet healthy and delicious.

How do you feel about Greek salads? Anything else you would add?

Obsessed with this { GoldieBlox engineering toys for girls commercial}

Although I'm not an engineer, going to an engineering school like Georgia Tech allowed me to meet SO many women in engineering. They are brilliant and they are a minority (11% of engineers are women) in a world full of male engineers. That's why I'm really proud and excited about GoldieBlox, a startup toy company that makes toys for "future women engineers." Love it.

And love the commercial. It's going viral, so watch if you haven't I love a little girl power.

Check out GoldieBlox products here.

LoopsWay Jewelry {review}

I'm so excited to share a new company with you!
LoopsWay is a trendy little online boutique started by a new mom whose love for fashion lead to the creation of this online wonderland. And, they sent me two beautiful pieces to review! I'm so happy they sent the Long Link Necklace and the Layered Link Necklace because when I first browsed the site, these were two of my favorite picks!

 I love the variety of the jewelry, how beautiful and creative everything is, and how everything is very affordable. All items below $15, eek!

Both necklaces go with pretty much any outfit, which is fantastic!

P.S. Loopsway also has really cute rings, earrings, and bracelets too.
 I really love this Gold Statement Bracelet.

41 things people are afraid of...

I've been working on this post for months.
Since summer, I've been asking random people a simple, yet difficult to answer question:
What are you afraid of?
While I did get some basic, fluff answers like "spiders," "thunderstorms," "Honey Boo-Boo," etc. I did get a lot of really, really powerful responses. I promised to keep the responses anonymous. But I will admit, one of the following fears belongs to me.

*bolded fears = more than 3 people gave this response

I always think it's interesting, empowering, and comforting to know that I'm not alone in something. So I hope you see at least one fear listed below that you can relate to. It means that someone else is afraid of the same thing. And it means that it's OK to be afraid, as long as you don't allow your fears to prevent you from living your dreams.

"There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure."
- Paulo Coelho

Teen fashion inspiration {Kyra}

3 Confessions
1. I watch (and love) Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
2. I understand what Kim meant when she was obsessed with her little sister Kylie's style.
3. I like Kyra (my teenage niece's) style more than some adult fashion bloggers.

It seems strange to look up to younger people for inspiration - whether that be fashion inspiration or any other kind. But I've learned that age ain't nothin but a number when it comes to inspiration.

Anyway, my niece is 14 going on 21 and she has such an eye for fashion. I love the way she puts things together and how she goes for different looks.

On Sunday, she wore a white sweater with a pleated leather skirt, black tights, and sparkly silver oxfords.

It was my dad's birthday on Saturday, so there was lots of family time this weekend and I loved it.

Confession #4: I spent lots of that family time picking my niece's brain about fashion.

Is there a teen whose fashion you love? Share!

Eating in ATL {Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream}

I finally made it to Jeni's.
I'd been seeing friends tweet and post pictures on Instagram about this new ice cream place in West Midtown, but I hadn't had the chance to check it out. Last night after an awesome dinner at Figo with my friend Shelby, we headed across the way to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.

Besides loving ice cream, I also wanted to check out Jeni's to see what the hype was all about. And it lived up to my expectations (don't you love when that happens!).

Most of my friends were raving about the Loveless Biscuits + Peach Jam flavor shown above. Yeah, that's really a flavor.

Oh, and they have these ridiculous ice cream sandwiches, yum.

I think they located in the right part of ATL. The vibe of Jeni's fits in perfectly with West Midtown.

flavor and it was love at first bite.

Shelby got one scoop of the Sweet Potato flavor I got and one scoop of the Brown Butter Almond Brittle, and she said it was great! We both quickly finished off our cups if that says anything haha.

The set up is super cute and trendy. It was fall-themed, so I'm assuming
they change the decor to match the seasons.

The decor also has a homey feel, which was nice and comfortable.

I think this would also be an awesome work/study space.

What's the most unique or best ice cream flavor you've ever had? I'm curious!

Layering up for winter

Burr, it's getting chilly in Atlanta. When I checked the weather app on my phone yesterday morning and saw the temperatures in the 30's…I knew I needed to layer. ATLiens know the power of layering because Atlanta weather is so moody. While it was freezing when I left for work, it wouldn't be surprising if the temperatures were in the 70's when I got off. Crazy, I know. But I've learned to expect it, and I've learned to dress in layers so that I can take off clothing and add on clothing as necessary.

I wore a tank top under my red and white tank. Then wore a denim long sleeved button up over that. Then, wore a thick black and white checkered blazer over all of that. Nice and warm.

Layering also offers the opportunity for adding in color and really making an outfit more dimensional. I also layered my jewelry by wearing a medium length pearl necklace and a gold chain.

How do you layer your clothing?

Guest post + male blogger you should follow

I recently did a guest post for a blogger friend of mine, Kolbi, the sweet guy behind Life With Kolbi! He's quirky, fun, friendly, and a guy blogger! And, he lives in Atlanta!

I often get emails asking if I know of great male bloggers (and got another one last night), so I'm sharing one of my favorites. With work, upcoming projects, and blogging I don't have tons of time to read other blogs but I definitely stop by Kolbi's on a weekly basis.

With all of the wonderful women bloggers in the world, it's nice to have a fun guy in the mix to follow and diversify what you read!

Who are your favorite male bloggers?

Georgia Gives Day 2013 {philanthropy}

Happy Georgia Gives Day! Georgia Gives Day is an initiative that has been co-created by the nonprofit sector itself. It doesn’t support one cause or one locale – it’s all of us in the state’s nonprofit sector pulling together to ask you to stop and consider your life and your community without nonprofits.

You can check out all of the awesome non-profit organizations in Georgia here and see how you can donate and get involved.

I'm donating to Foreverfamily, an organization I've become really involved with and happy to support because of all of the great work Foreverfamily is doing in the Atlanta community. We work to support children with incarcerated parents to show them the love and support of a family to help break the cycle of incarceration.

Any donation amount is helpful and appreciated :)

Where to find blog post inspiration

One of the most common email questions I receive, after questions on how to get more blog sponsors, is how I find inspiration for my blog posts. I do my best to follow the rule of having a good blend of personal content + fun/light content + public use content. But how do I come up with ideas on what to write about? It's not always easy, but I do have a nice list of where I find inspiration when I can't immediately think of a blog topic.

I hope these will be helpful as you think of what to publish next!

Pinterest
I'm on Pinterest pretty much every day. It's become quite the habit, but it's also one of the highest traffic sources for my blog. I also sometimes see really cool and interesting things on Pinterest that help me think of blog posts, are the featured items on blog posts, or teach me more about a future blog post.

You can follow me on Pinterest here.

Celebs
What actually inspired me to do this post, besides the emails, was watching Beyonce's documentary "Life is but a Dream" and remembering how inspired I was the first time I watched it. While some celebs just frustrate me with their actions, there are some really ambitious and fascinating celebs who give me ideas on blog posts. From fashion to new projects, celebs are always doing something worth talking about.

Role Models
I have role models in the blog world and in the regular world whose words and actions often inspire posts. Sometimes I will blog about those people or look at what they've done in the past for inspiration.

Books and Blogs
Just like authors read books to be better authors, bloggers should also read books and other blogs for inspiration. This doesn't mean straight up copying someone else's blog post…and definitely doesn't mean taking someone else's material. But getting ideas from what's already out there and crafting it to make it your own.Your blog posts should be in your voice and have your style smeared all over them.

Older Posts
Look back at your older posts…you'll be surprised what you find.

Current Events
Some of the most popular articles on the web are reactions to current events. I'm especially inspired by current events that impact my generation, demographic, or community. These posts can sometimes be controversial, but they are sure to drive traffic to your site and get people talking about your writing.

OOTD
Whenever I really like an outfit I have on, I try to get some photos and save them for a later date when I may be running dry on post ideas. Viewers love seeing photos of the actual blogger, it makes the blogger seem more human-like. Make sure to get multiple photos to show the entire outfit and share the details of your outfit. You can also share the outfits of friends with great style!

See example here.

Personal Challenges and Achievements
It can be obnoxious if you only brag about the awesome parts of your life on your blog. But it can also be a downer if you're always complaining on your blog. I think being honest and sharing the good and the bad is the best way to show the true you and have a genuine blogger presence. Personal posts are typically crowd favorites because they help viewers relate to the blogger and also humanize the blogger. Life is full of ups and downs, so an honest blog should reflect that.

One of my recent personal posts has been one of the most viewed this month. Read it here.

Holidays
Be aware of upcoming holidays and use those as inspiration for posts. Also be aware that other bloggers will do the same. So, the more personal the post, the better.

Quotations
I read inspirational quotations and Bible verses throughout the week. Usually they are just reminders of words I've heard before. But sometimes, a set of words really speak to me and I get an idea of how I can write a post about that topic or just share the quotation with my viewers.

See example here.

Photography
I love looking at great photography that tells a story and using those photos or stories as inspiration for posts.

Ask Your Viewers
If you have a great following on your blog, don't be afraid to ask your viewers what they'd like to see on your blog! If you're still working on getting your viewer numbers up, ask family and friends for suggestions on what to post.

Random Facts
While I haven't done one of these types of posts before…I do think they can be interesting if the questions/facts are interesting. Sharing random facts can be a fun and great way to let your viewers learn more about you and your blog.

Quality over Quantity
Sometimes, the inspiration just isn't there or I'm just not in the mood to write a blog post. And I think it's okay. I blog because I genuinely enjoy it. So there are days when I don't post because I either don't have anything to share or just wasn't up for writing a post that day. I believe that quality posts are always better than basic and surface level posts. Viewers can tell when something has been thrown together and it lowers the value of your blog.

Where do you find inspiration when you can't think of a blog post topic?
And what bloggers inspire you?
